Focus

We all want to feel important, RIGHT? Most people would say that they want to feel important and enjoy positive attention. I believe that it’s formed in us, it’s a basic need. From birth we're taught that acceptance is a good feeling, acceptance makes you feel important. Our society has formed this culture that has taught us to strive for acceptance. Nobody enjoys being singled out? People are afraid of disapproval! RIGHT? I’ll admit when I started Blogging I was afraid of disapproval. Why? Maybe cause I’m putting myself out there. This blog is my hobby, I love to write, I Love my family and friends, and I love God! I worry too much about what people think. Will I look stupid? Will I be judged for my personal thoughts? Does it really matter what others think? Maybe it’s because nobody wants others to think badly about them, it makes you feel bad. Not sure about you, but I try to avoid situations that make me feel bad.
So here’s my thought…….. Refuse to live life as someone else’s opinion or thoughts. You can’t live life unhappy and limit yourself, because what someone might think about you. I’m not going to deny myself of something because I’m worried about what people think.
Here’s how I see it, we all have different thought processes and different opinions (that change all the time). You can’t exhaust yourself with the worry about what someone else might be thinking of you. You cannot control what people think, but you can control who runs your thought process and your life.
This is me, and I've a worked very hard to get where I am today. I can’t let myself stumble in the path I’m on because of what someone else might think about me. I’m a good friend, good mother, good daughter, great wife (LOL) and I’m true to others and to who I am. This blog is me and my family and my love for God. That doesn’t mean that I’ve gone all religious on you and that I’m going to start pushing my beliefs on anyone.  I’m a fun person, ask my close friends. You can have faith and a love for God and still have a good time!
So yes, my strings were pulled, and it upset me. You don’t have to read what I write, but I will not stop being who I am for anyone. It’s really all about being a good person, and I have to set the example for my children.
At the end of your day where’s your focus?

Gossip

What a big topic! This is a topic we touched base on at church this last Sunday, but a topic I have worked on for sometime now. It is so easy to get caught up in the conversation. Everyone likes a good story, right? Well, I guess that depends on if the story is about you. I would say that most people don't like being the topic of conversation. Spreading rumors only hurts and destroys our credibility. Everyone is guilty of getting caught up in the moment and talking about others.
A couple of months ago I read a book that talked a bit about this subject. The biggest thought I took from the book was, if you are gossiping  about anyone, then how can you be trusted. Think about it! How can I trust someone with something that I have shared with them if they talk about others. You can guarantee if someone will talk about others they will talk about you!
I think sometimes we get wrapped up in the conversation that we don't realize what we are doing. What may start out as a simple conversation turns quickly to something else.
So why do we get so wrapped up in others lives? Maybe, there's something in ourselves that is not being satisfied. When you have a life that is satisfying and you love what you do and who you are, you don't have time or the want to become involved in other people's lives.  It's so damaging when people open their mouth without filtering their thoughts and having restriction.
Gossiping is judging others, which really isn’t our job. God is in charge of judging people, not us.
Proverbs 18:8 – “The words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.”
Proverbs 11:13 – “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.”
1 Timothy 5:13 – “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.”
Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

A walk in an RT's shoes

As a respiratory therapist (RT) we are responsible for taking care of patients that suffer from complications related to the respiratory (breathing) system.
RT’s treat patient’s of all ages, from infant to elderly.
We treat premature infants whose lungs are not properly developed, older people who have diseased lungs, heart attack patients, stroke patients, heart failure patients, asthmatics, surgical patients, neurology patients………. The list never really stops!
As an RT we conduct a variety of test that determines the complications our patients are having. We analyze blood samples of patients that measures the ph and the concentrations of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the blood.
Respiratory therapist care for 99% of all post-operative patients. We test lung capacity and give patients instruments to aid in deep breathing. We do tests that record volume levels of oxygen inhaled and exhaled by the patients. This test helps to understand the problems of patients with lung deficiency.
We manage ventilators for patients that are unable to breathe on their own. We manage Bipap/Cpap machines to help patients that still have a respiratory drive but need help to keep them away from a ventilator. Making changes as seen fit to the patients needs. Changes usually based off of blood gases drawn from the patient.
Rt’s remove mucous from the lungs of patients….YUCK!
Respiratory responds to every CODE (cardiac or respiratory failure) in the hospital.
We do CPR and intubate patients when needed.
We comfort patients and families on a daily basis, and I think that this is one of the most important parts of the job.
So, Who wants to be an RT? I love it!

I need an instruction manual please!!

So my question to God,  “Where is the instructions for these two
beautiful children that you have given me?”

PICT0807

Really, I want clear direction! (LOL)
My husband always says that 2 children is more than double the work of 1.  In my house it’s totally true!  Do you think we will have another?
I would love to have more children.
I just don’t know if I can handle more without a manual.  Just kidding…… about the manual!
So what kind of discipline works for you?
Spanking?
Time out?
Taking something of importance away?
We have tried it all at our house.  Both of my kids react differently to punishment.
Time out and taking stuff away has really worked the best for us.
Spanking, I believe in it!  My kids just don’t get upset enough for me when spanked! HAHA!
That sounds funny, I know.  If your going to punish them though you
want them to learn a lesson. Audrey she is my biggest handful!
She is so sweet to the world, but not to her MOMMA!
You would think that I would be priority here, not so much.
Ryan well let’s just say he is 100% boy and has learned so much form BIG sister.
Most of the time they are in trouble for fighting with each other, but watch out if someone else picks on one of them.
The other will be right there defending the other.
I need some new ideas for discipline! What works for all you mom’s out
there?

My day job versus my passion....

I enjoy many aspects of my current job. I now supervise a Respiratory Therapy department for a local hospital in Southern Illinois and I’m thankful to have a job. Most of my time is really spent working with staff with focus on patient care. I do get to the floor (direct patient care) on occasion, but not as much as I used to. I love working with patients! It’s such a rewarding feeling to take care of people. Since I started working in healthcare in 2006 I have always been on the treatment side of patient care. In 2010 I completed my graduate work in Community Public Health, and have a strong passion for prevention of health related issues. My passion is to work in a medical care facility as a health educator. I want to educate each patient on their diagnosis and how it may change or affect their lifestyle, as well as attempt to prevent illnesses by informing and educating people about health related topics. I hope to work closely with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other staff to create educational programs.
